It's an 8.8 inch bar display. I originally got it for cpu usage monitor but they are perfect for cyber decks

Resolution? 1920 x ???

The text on this particular panel can be microscopic imo.

HSD088IPW (something or other.)

These screens look cool but be honest what its like reading from one of these?

1
User avatar
level 1

Honestly, one of the best I ever seen. I particularly like the naked feeling of the parts, and love the ultrawide aspect

Btw, is it folding on istelf for better portability ?

14
User avatar

Love the keyboard design! You build that yourself?

17
User avatar
level 2

No, it's a pockettype by mechboards.co.uk/

That is very cool! I love the way it looks hacked together but still clean. Definitely has a retro future vibe right out of a cyberpunk world. Well done!

If the cables and dongles weren’t there it would absolutely be the cleanest build I’ve seen, very well done by OP:

It basically was hacked together from spare parts, built it in a few hours with things I have sitting around

Cleanest build I’ve seen. What’s the total cost? In comparison, I bought an asus l203m from Amazon last year for programming and other stuff. It has an ok screen, fanless, 10 hour battery life using Linux and works fine. It cost $200.

I honestly didn't pay anything to build it, I already had everything just sitting around lol. The base is a keyboard case that I dont use, I looked at it yesterday and realized I could make a deck out if it. All the components tho maybe $245. Could be cheaper but raspberry pis are so expensive nowadays

Here's the model HSD088IPW1. They are a bit cheaper or more expensive depending on a few things. Mine came with a mini HDMI out on the controller board.

2
User avatar
level 1

Fuck that's slick. What's the plastic case on top of the keyboard? Keyboard wires?

4
User avatar
level 2

That's part of the keyboard, like a plastic cover to protect the diodes

User avatar

Love this ultra wide screens for cyberdecks

Hey do you know how to get a raspberry pi? I wanted to get one to learn doing stuff like that but every website i went through were out of stock or cost like 150 dollars.

Oh and it is amazing what you did. It looks so cool.

I usually use Amazon but yeah prices are insane right now. I think there are some all in one kits on Amazon that are under 100

1
User avatar
level 1

Super cool! Love the aesthetic of the ultrawide screen. Dumb question perhaps but is the display as simple as just plugging into the Pi? What connection does it use?

1
User avatar
level 2

With the pi 4 I just had to rotate, and the displays input is mini hdmi

2
User avatar
level 3

Rotate as in change the orientation in the display settings or something to physically do with the display? Sorry I'm a noob to Pi's and lots of the displays I've looked at have weird requirements like ribbons and stuff

1
User avatar
level 4

Yeah, rotate in display settings. Adding display_rotate=1 in /boot/config.txt

2
User avatar
level 5

How are the viewing angles off to the side? I've thought about using one of these in portrait mode for writing code but not sure if it would still look clear or go fuzzy.

1
User avatar
level 1

this gives me the good feels

1
User avatar
level 1

This is amazing. Can we have some more photos and details? Maybe a tutorial?

1
User avatar
level 2

There are more photos with details of process on here

2
User avatar

This build looks really good, I love the naked look of the keyboard but I have to wonder how usable the keyboard is.

1
User avatar
level 1

What kind of keyboard? Looks cool

1
User avatar
level 2

The pockettype by mechboards uk

1
User avatar
level 3

Cool thx :)

1
User avatar
level 1

Is typing practical with this or a struggle?

This keyboard looks like it may be a possible backup for my CyberDEX that I'm building.

1
User avatar
level 1

If I'd have to make do with a small computer, I might go for one like this. Assuming, that is, there are characters on the keys.

1
User avatar
level 1

Hey there u/parabolize! I was recently inspired by r/cyberdeck to make one myself. I actually ended up getting the same screen as you, but when I connect it to my Pi 3 I get a black screen with a square and an 'H' in the lower right corner. Did you encounter that during set up? If so how did you get it to actually display properly?

1
User avatar
level 2

I had to plug In another screen into pi 4 and set xrandr settings for this display from there. I use as music visualizer and cpu display normally on pc rig. I had this deck for a day as I already had every component but no practical use for it. Everything is back to normal usage lol

1
User avatar
level 1

Sick man ,can you tell me the parts you used?

1
User avatar
level 1

I know this is an old post but on the off chance you read this can you tell me what the frame is/ how it was made that the keyboard and pi sits in

1
User avatar
level 2

The frame is a piece of a jj50 2 piece keyboard case

1
User avatar
level 3

I suspected as much... Well, as much as it must be a keyboard case of some kind, my current build is a larger version of yours; however, with larger keyboards, it's hard to find a frame that will fit an 85% and a pi next to it

1
User avatar
level 1

But can it run Doom? Crysis?

1
User avatar
level 1

Seriously, I'm jealous of this type of deck. It taps into my cyberpunk-80s-90s curiosities. I, however, went the route of a graphic artist/production artist, but I'd still LOVE to have something of this kind of form factor to portably whip up designs and build mechanicals. Closest I'd get would be an iPad with one of the newer keyboards. Not as cool as this, though.

Make a raspberry pi 400 one :0 and make it as xheap as possible so we cam copy lol
